I have a sugar roll out dough, a chocolate roll out dough and a gingerbread. I’ve made this time and time again because, while shapes are fun, chocolate is also fun.
On Saturday my camera broke. It was a pretty old camera and I actually hated it and had asked for a new one for Christmas. Well Merry Christmas to me, I went out yesterday and bought myself a new shiny red one to match my shiny red standing mixer. Saturday afternoon, however, I had to use a super old stupid dumb camera that I think was the first digital camera ever made. It took terrible pictures. Who cares, really, except that I made my FAVORITE PIZZA EVER on Saturday and can’t share pretty pictures with you. MAKE THIS PIZZA. It tastes like chicken alfredo but it’s from Cooking Light so it’s not going to break the calorie bank. It’s AMAzing.
At work we have filing cabinets full of hundreds of recipes; literally, like 800. One day, very randomly, I stumbled across a pineapple upside down cake. I didn’t have pineapple, but I DID have some apples!
Butternut Squash is the sort of thing many people like, but don’t attempt to make at home. I included a bunch of pictures of the preparation involved, because it’s really not difficult. This time of year these squash are plentiful and CHEAP and can usually be found locally sourced.
Choux pastry is a batter created with water, eggs, and flour. When it bakes, the water turns to steam and makes the batter rise with an airy space in the center… perfect to fill with pastry cream or ice cream. If you fill with pastry cream, it’s a cream puff. If you make them elongated and fill them with pastry cream, it’s an eclair. If you fill them with ice cream, they are are called profiteroles!
I love pumpkin. I love baking with pumpkin. I have even been known to stir some cinnamon and sugar into plain canned pumpkin and eat it for a snack. Yum.
Last night there occurred an impromptu girls night involving myself, my 1 mo. old daughter, both grand-moms and Monica, our close family friend. The plan was to go out to an Italian restaurant and play pass the baby. I happen to know said baby likes to scream her head off between the hours of 7 and 9 pm, so I didn’t see the restaurant as a great option. I decided to save us all some cash and make us a pasta dinner while THEY played pass the screaming baby.
Monkey Bread is basically a varied form of a cinnamon roll. It is made from the same exact yeast dough, but instead of being rolled up and cut it is rolled into balls, dipped in butter and brown sugar/cinnamon, and stuck back together in a pan to be devoured piece by piece.
